Does anyone know what this is?

Hello.
I took this picture at a Marine Küsten Batterie near by my granparents cottage. I have never seen anything like this before at a bunker site! It looks like a clock, but it has too many "hours". It`s constructed right beside the battery`s Leitstand. The battery had 4x 15cm SKL/45.
The leitstand is also a very interesting construction.
I hope anyone can help me.

Best regards

Looks like a clock to me, it only has 12 hours on it, not too many for a clock :)

It's some cunning camoflage they have. Nobody has heard about bunker with clock so everyone who sees it thinks it can't be a bunker.

I have really wondered about this too......

As it is directed towards the gunpositions, I guess it would be visible from there..... But why?

Did you notice this detail up there???

Now THAT'S nice! I wonder why it hasn't been defaced yet. How big is that bunker? It looks to be a command one or something.

Clock...

I think the clock will be visible form only two of the gun positions. The other two are possitioned far to the left of the clock.

Yes I have seen that detail. It is now covered up, but the swastica is still "up in the air" 8) No it`s not a commandbunker, its only a shellter or an amunition store of a siegfried type. I have many pictures of the battery. I`m actually goeing there on saturday. Its only 10 minutes from my grandparents cottage.

Geee,

The answer is beside the swastika...an enermous figure of a cannon.
It was a platform for a cannon...when they dismantled the thing the flatform was tilted somehow for some reason. My humble guess of course.
Or is the cannon still there ?

There must be "sensible explanation". Could this bunker be some kind of a generator room for making electric power for the coastal battery? Then the clock's "hour markings" (holes) could be either for exhaust or cooling air pipes (which have been removed)?

What kind of generators Germans used? I think aircraft radial engine (12 pistons in this case - Germans did use these for example in their KM mine boats) would be suitable for a generator powerplant and it would need that kind of a mount. Another possibility is that the mount is for some kind of a large fan (for the compressor's cooling air for example).

Or it is just a top secret large cellar for soldiers' wines and Lagers...

I`m actually goeing there on saturday
Say hello to all the nice equipment from me
I was there 2-3 weeks ago and that firecontrolpost is definately something!!

We also got atip about a Vf bunker for 4,7cm Pak(t) in that battery, but we couldn`t find it....... Have you ever seen one of these there??

-The clock is not on the same bunker as the swaztika.
-The swaztika one is defiantely a shelter for a gun crew.
-The clock is located on the foirecontrolpost several hundred meters from the gunemplacements.

You know, the coastal battery wasnt really a battery, otherwise it would have to be like a Z size  :P

Did the battery have 360 degrees of fire coverage? If so perhaps it indicates direction of a target?

my .2¢

It seems unlikely that a clock would have holes built in to the cement walls. (But not impossible.)

I think it could be for a siren. A large rotary warning siren would need holes for the sound to get out.

I think given that they are holes, it would be a ventilation system, or a siren room or something like that.

Or maybe it is some kind of rangefinder triangulation system.

Anymore photos or info to give us a clue?

What sort of fitting does the hole at centre have? Threads, grooves?

What size is the bunker and where is it in relation to everything else?

This was a coastal battery, so was/is the "clock" in a place where it can be seen from the sea, or would it have been out of sight to ships?
