in 44-45 it was 12.8 cm Flakzwilling, with lesser armament of 2cm and twin 3.7cm weapons for protection of low flying a/c.

No wonder the Soviets were worried about the fact that the AA-guns could also be toward ground.

How many Flak towers were there in Berlin? If I remember correctly Cornelius Ryan talked about a flak tower near the Berlin Zoo in his book The Last Battle.

Also could someone post any pics of the towers, before or after the war? I read about these Flak towers in Beevor's "The Fall of Berlin 1945", and was interested.

You can see a couple recent photos of the remains of one of the Berlin flak towers at http://www.thirdreichruins.com/berlin.htm#flakturm .

What did you expect ???

Here are som pictures of the Berlin Flaktowers:

Friederichshain / Humboldthain / Tiergarten ( Zoo )

There were similar towers in:

Hamburg - Heiligengeistfeld and Wilhelmsburg

Vienna - Arenberg Park / Augarten / Esterhazy Park ( Stiftskaserne )

Each Flakposition consisted of two towers, the G-Turm ( Gefechtsturm ) and the L- Turm ( Leit Turm ).

Regards
Kurt
