If we add all this info together as an Ally bomber that wants to demoralize the population with terror and death I would simply just pound as much as I can the towers
If the construction started in 1940, the situation in Germany was completely different from what happened there 3-4 years later! I bet no 1940 type bombs would do much harm to these towers.
Flak was often placed on house roofs, or special made towers if there were no suiteable hills nearby, so a Flaktürm would solve 2 problems with one construction...Both shelter and platform!

Good day everyone

You have a point there Erik :D but as the war progressed the Germans realized that the Allies had far superior bombs that could destroy easily their bunkers (many strong position were destroyed in France which we can use as the example). So in the end did the Germans simply wait for a catastrophy to happen where like I said 30 000 would die, instead of trying to improve the towers by sheltering the population under them (in tunnel systems)????

It should be pointed out that the phot I posted doesn't illustrate actual scale too well. The crater shown is actually quite massive...probably a good 3 to 4 feet across and close to 1 foot deep.

I don't think that any bomb short of a direct hit by a tall boy or grand slam would have much of a destructive impact on the structure itself.

Carpet bombimg isn´t an exact sience.... And those Flakturms are massive!
I had the privilege to visit Humoldthain a month ago, going inside the complex on a tour with "The Berlin Unterwelt" society. Higly recommended. Among other things, the guide told about the high tech guiding system for the guns. The guns wasn´t actually aimed by the gunners, but from the L-turm, with a radar equippment.
Also, the shells was time-set in the the lower regions an transported på lift to the guns and loaded automatically. Sometimes, there was too much lubrication on the railing, this making the shells to slow down and explode before the reach the guns.
Any other imput on the technicallities on the Flak towers would be greatly appreciated!

I think nothing short of a modern air launched, high precision heavy calibre munition could take one of these scary but beautiful structures down.
And it would probably shoot back!

Hello

None of the Leitturme in Hamburg had water so near.

I would say that it is the Leitturm of the Zoo bunker in Berlin - that fits with the small stream / channel in the foreground.

Yes the Zoo / Tiergarten Leit-bunker.
