Gentlemen:
Following some post about different gun barrel change times I would like to know the average number of shots to change the barrel of 88 AA.
About the spent shots to shotdown allied bomber (specially B-17) the money value of average 13.000 shots is almost the price of the bomber.
Who's winning?
Sincerely
Barone

Re: 88 AA gun barrel timelife
The lifespan of a 8,8cm FlaK 18/36/37 barrel was estimated between 2000 and 6000 shots fired, depending on the type of propellant used. Apparently one type (Rohrpulver B) was more corrosive than the other type (Rohrpulver M).Barone wrote:Gentlemen:

Thank's Claus!
Actually I had numbers around 5000, but questionable sources. I prefer yours. Thank's again.

88 gun barrel life time
HI
i concurr with the estimate of 5000 to 6000 rds depending on things as detachment maintance and how often the gun is callibrated(the number of times the crew "cleans" the gun and the weare measured) The crew 'overcleaning' can have a huge effect of barrel life
