Some Finnish people pushing Flak 88. As you can see, the thing sure was heavy. There are about 14 people pushing it.

It sure was heavy, I did not know that men could push it. I thought you had to have a truck. Well, as always with this forum, you learn something new every day. The shells are gigantic, seen them at a lot of museums. I feel sorry for the loaders of the 88, they really needed to be strong if they were to be able to load for hours in a battle.

Well, the shells arent that heavy. Heavy, yes. That heavy? No. With decent crew, Flak 88 could fire about 20 shells in one minute.

The shell weight of an 88 mm gun was 19.8 pounds, which means about 10 kilos. If you had to lift up that shell and place it into the barrel 20 times in a minute, how many minutes would you be able to keep working? Not as many as you wish. But the gun was usually taken around by a truck, so pushing the 88 was not part of their daily excercise.

DivX Decoder Filter is what you need and the movie requires for playback.

Out of curiosity since the 88 was first utilized as a flak gun before becoming standard artillery... was the Flak 88 the type the Germans used against high altitude bombers like the B-17 ? Oh and what about the flakveirling 38 ( four barreled sucker )...... the shells could really go that high ? :? Im always full of questions....
