New bunker discovered

#1

Post by OMK » 25 Feb 2005, 12:21

A new bunker has been discovered during work in a field. Apparently the thing was unknown of, presumably "lost" after the war. The oldest inhabitant on the property (85 years old with most of her life spent in the area) did not know of it before.

Apparently it is 4x4 meters with one entrance and one shooting slit (?). It was empty short of a wooden stove and ash-shovel. The location is 35-40 kilometers south of Stavanger in south-west Norway. (For those of you who are interested and can read Norwegian : http://www.jbl.no/index.html?infoPage=o ... ageCode=NO ).

Imagine just going out to work one day and dig up a bunker. By accident!! (Would have made my day).

Hello
Im sure Erik E. is going to add some info on this one, perhaps he is already on the place... :D
This is the kind of things that make this interesting, just as Kurt´s pictures from Denmark after the storm.

Hallo!

Guess the bunker is a part of the Army coastal battery called 8/978 Jederens Rev....
This battery was located in the middle of farmlands / fields, and much of it is still missing.......
On old maps, you can see atleast 20 bunkers and buildings, but today, only 4-5 bunkers are left open, the rest are probably burried.
Becouse of the flat terrain, most bunkers were built below groundlevel, making them very easy to cover after the war.
I wouldn`t be surprised if they found a few more before they finish their work......

All bunkers out there seems to be of Vf style.... No known type numbers.
The battery is built too early for the Atlantikwall style, but still they are all fitted with entrancedefence.
All bunkers are numbered, the highest I`ve ever seen out there is "Nr 19"

Looks like something out of the "ice-age" LOL

...anyone found any cavemen bones inside?

Pretty cool find for them.
Hope they also found some good wartime relics for the museum too.

Cheers
