Stp Corbière in Jersey
Hi there all. This is my 1st post on this forum so hello to you all. I live in jersey where as you all know has a lot of german bunkers, more per square mile then any where on Atlantikwall. I am a member of the C.I.O.S, who are a group of volunteers who restore & then open german bunkers to the public. At the moment we have 8 bunkers which are restored & open up to the public.
I help out at the Stp Corbière at the 633 M19 & the 634, which was only excavated on the 1st of march this year, it also has a tunnel which connects it to the 633. There is also a Jäger casemate which has its original 10,5cm K331(f) weapon. The 633 M19 is almost completely restored now, with the exception of the mortar room, where we are rebuilding the M19 mortar. The 634 is just being restored now. On the 11th of june we are starting to clear out the room below the steel turret (which was blow out by scrap men in the 1950s) which is full of rubble!
I would like to know of anybody who has visited any of the bunkers at Stp Corbière & what you thought of them. If you have not visited Stp Corbiere, here are two links with some of my pictures & some other bunkers in Jersey. The other link is to the C.I.O.S web site. So please let me know what you think
Thanks Kevin

Hi Kevin
Great job your C.I.O.S. team is doing , it is good
to see those bunkers restored in there orignal
state.
I have a few questions about the 633 , on the drawing
in the book "German Tunnels in the Channel Islands"
from Michael Ginns the 633 has a Jagertobruk is this
correkt and how did the Germans come in the Eingangs-
verteidigung ( entrance defence ) because the stairway
look to block it.
Regards Jos

Hi Jos
Thanks iam glad you like what we have done with the bunkers. The 633 has been restored over the past 10 years & we are just starting on the 634. Right your question on the 633. I will need to check on the drawing in that book to see if it differs from the book that iam using "Jersey's German Bunkers". From the drawing in my book the 633 does have a Tobruk/Observer's open postion to the right of the entrance. This was used to let the M19 mortar room know where the targets are! As for the Jager there are two Jager casemates at Stp Corbiere one has been fully restored with its original 10.5 weapon. How they get into the entrance defence room is via a set of metal rungs, if you look at my link with the pictures (ref 633 Corbiere 9) you can see the stair case leading down to the tunnel, you can just see on the right hand side the metal rungs leading up to the entrance defence room. I hope i have help you with your questions & one day you will have to vist it your self....ok cheers Kevin

I went to Jersey last easter to see my gran, and i visited Corbiere. The camo on 633 is amazing! Sadly it seemed none of the bunkers were open but i still wnt down and saw the PaK gun. Hopefully they shall be open in August when i go. The rangefinding tower on the cliffs nearby was very imposing! When did you add hte mg on 634?
cheers
Philip

Hi there philip. Lets hope we will be open when you are over in august. The 633 & 634 are open most sundays & the Jagar is open most saturdays. Our main problem is we dont have enough man power to open the bunkers all of the time. The Mg is only mounted on 634 when we are open to the public, we have had it there for the past couple of months depending on weather condtions. cheers Kevin
Hello!
Nice to get some members from this part of the AW too!
What I really wonder about, is where the entrance from the tunnel goes into the R633 and R634....
In Norway, we only know one R633 which was ever connected to a tunnel, but unforteunately, I have never been inside....
Was there any standards where to connect tunnels in R bunkers? (Or M, L, S +++)

Hi there Erik
Well i thought that people need to know about the AW in the Channel islands, as i dont think to many people have traveled over here to see the fortifications!
Right back to you question about the tunnel connecting the 633 to the 634. In both bunkers the access to the tunnel is via the ventilation room.If you look at the pic of the stairs leading down to the tunnel you can see on the right hand side some metal rungs they lead up to the entrance defence room. To get to the 634 is down the stairs along the tunnel up about 30ish stairs then climb the metal rungs which enter the ventilation room. This tunnel was done using the cut & fill method not drilled it is over 40 feet deep! I dont know if this is the standered postion of the tunnel & how you access it? i hope this info has help you in some way Erik...cheers Kevin
