Hello Jos,

Thanks! Great photos of the Vierlings-MG 17 and the Achtlings-MG 81.

The use of Achtlings-MG is mentioned on page 475 in Thorsten Heber’s excellent PhD dissertation from 2003, but I have never seen a photo of one until now.

greetings
Lars

hello Jos

Great picture.
Seems that the gun is fitted with a new (mechanical !?) firing device. A pity that the guy is holding his hand on it!

greetings
Lars

Hello All

Thanks to Tony Williams who I.D. the gun , it's a 20 mm Hispano-Suiza HS 404
if you see the You Tube film it looks like a English one from a airplane .

Hello

Here is a picture of another type of pedestal mount for a 20 mm Hispano-Suiza. Not a WW2 one, though. The gun was taken from a Spitfire Mk. IX of the RDAF once in the 50es.

Hello Lars

Thanks for your picture , nice to see that the "tradition" to use
aircraft guns as Flak by airfields was taken over by the RDAF. :D
