Post by jopaerya » 26 Aug 2005 16:01

Hi All

Is it korrekt that this 8,8 cm gun was used in the
Jagdpanther, the bettungen with 8,8cm pak were
planned in the Westwall in 1944.

Jos take care about my health:always when I see photocopies form Your archives I'm close to heart attack

But coming back to the point-mayby this could be the answer:
It looks like testing bed for this improvised gun construction.Have a look in the background there is as i suppose a device(square shape frame) for testing speed of projectile.
Unfortunetly I have further info about this gun in Westwall.I could ad that short 7,5 pak on 'festung laffete' was used during Oder defence in 1945.One survived and is preserved in museum.

Hi @ndrew

Your foto must be taken at a firingrange as you said,
this type of lafette looks like a mobile one , the gunmounting
is the same but is has a "Kreuzlafette" .
It also looks that the iron piece (Jagdpanther) on the barrel has
turned.

But you have to remember, that additional cruciform bases, looking very similarly to the one in @ndrew's picture, were commonly used for making 8,8 cm Flak 37 (o) guns of permanent battreries mobile for front line combat in 1944-45. One such a base was discovered in Poland last year together with a SdAh 204 bogie.
Then, there's a picture taken by American troops (in Italy, as far as I remember - but I'm not 100 per cent sure :? ), showing a Jagdpanther gun, complete with Topfblende armour, on a field position - sadly the gun is placed in a trench, the picture is taken directly from front and so no details of the carriage are visible.

Here is an example:
1 Nice example of arranging pocket ammo store-guess they are concrete rings for building a water well(?)
2 Hmm except gun laffete there is also a concrete foundation.

Thanks Tom and Grzesio

I think we have foto of a 8,8 cm Pak 43/3 without the Saukopf
or Topfblende armour in a Sk-L IIa on a concrete bettung.

Andrew,

The odd, round concrete sections are precast conduit pipe sections for use in sewers, culverts, large water mains, etc. One still finds them frequently in Europe and USA

Hello
Any clue on this gun , looks like a tankgun
With a limited knowledge to such things my suggestion is a 7,5 cm Pak 40 (40/3 or 40/4 ?) as shown in the pictures. Others have to define what it is as i cant see that the barrel is matching
