Thank you, that is very helpful.
Re: French 155 GPFT used by German troops
Hello,
Germans used 3 Models of the french 155 GPF guns ("Grande Puissance Filloux"):
-K 417 (f): it is the french GPF-CA, "CA" means "chambre agrandie" (enlarged chamber), range increased.
-K 418 (f): it is the GPF, unaltered since 1917.
-K 419 (f): it is the GPF-T, "T" for "Touzard", it is the model with pneumatic tyres.
Yours sincerely,
Guy François.

Hello,
They are differences between the two models "GPF" and "GPF-T", not only pneumatic tyres but also a new small carriage.
To bring the "GPF" to battery site, it was necessary to excavate a rectangular trench (600 mm deep) for the recoil of the tube.
With the "GPF-T", this operation was not necessary, because the new small carriage is more high.
The two models had the same 35°maximum elevation.
With old shells of great war, range was 16.200 meters.
With 1918 FATO shell, the range was 18.600 meters.
The Ferrard book is wrong for the range of 21.000 meters.
This range is good only for an experimental "GPF" with a more high "petit affût" with 39-40° elevation.
This is only a prototyp made before the war.
The range 18.600 meters is good for french shells with french powder '"charge 0" and american shells with american powders "supercharge" had 18.800 meters range.
These numbers are still exact in 1948 year in the french documents of "Ecole d'application de l'artillerie" in Idar-Oberstein (Germany).
Yours sincerely,
Guy François.

Thus the only thing reused in the GPF-T was the barrel (with modified firing chamber) and cradle, no??.ALVF wrote

These guns must have been captured from Blanchard's French 1st Army leading up to or after Dunkerque.

Re: French 155 GPFT used by German troops
What I would like to know is from what unit the Germans captured these weapons? It must have been from a major command, say Blanchard's 1ère Armée? Does anyone here know precisely? I suspect the photo might have been taken somewhere near Lille, non?schwarzermai wrote:hello Jos, thank you! uwe
