This is welcom info. I noticed that it had to be a directionfinder or observation bunker of some sort,... but with this extra info I will change this on the page. On the 5cm Flak (KwK),... I thought in my simpel mind,... that this type of 5cm KwK was used as a Flakgun, and not as a standard Kwk,....

Gary Sterne discovered the huge 'Maisy Battery’ after he found a crinkled map which fell out of an old pair of US serviceman’s trousers at a military memorabilia fair in Stockport.

Probably again those bastard journalists and all 'those others' writing nonsense.
Where did they get the information from Gary?
Funny coincedence, every january of the year there's 'news' about this incredible site.
There must be a full team of marketing managers behind this museum!

Someone has to prevent the BBC from broadcasting this!

Easy now...let Mr. Sterne have his battery, after all he is doing a job out of preserving it - its there for all of us - lets go see for ourselves.

But...I thought it already had opend last year?

How come not, any problems for opening then - it seems now that it will open this spring 2008?

The merit of Mr. tern was to have opened this battery ..... history that it has something else.
ST none has been found except two or three wellblechs.
The position is very interesting to see for visitors crossing .....

kstdk has a very valid point..Mr Sterne is, to use an English phrase, putting his money where his mouth is, and funding the return of this Battery to public access.Some of the contributors here find it more useful to attack him about infinitely minor detail than to be of assistance.Veterans' memories and accounts differ? Well, there's a surprise!! German and Allied maps differ?! Well, amazing, another surprise! Of course, Mr Sterne has his own agenda, but at least he is making the effort.I would be utterly surprised if he got every minute detail absolutely right, first time, about something built before most of the contributors here were born.Give the guy a break!

Isn't time to stop the whole discussion about the Maisy site?
The same discussion is going on, on several fora.
Let's keep it simple, if you don't agree with Mr. Sterne, don't react, you do give him publicity for free even when you don't agree.
If you're interested in the site, just earn it a visit, and judge afterwards
(maybe after a dicussion with the owner?)
This thing is going on for such a long time that its difficult to select the crab from the history.
He has encountered some difficulties about permissions etc... with the French gouvernment and openings times have been posponed,
and there are discussions about the size of the guns etc...
But's that's what makes the site interesting (I really don't want to take sides), is that there are some interesting constructions on the site, wether it's a commercial site or not.

I can't quite understand why the Maisy BTr became involved in this rambling psuedo-documentary.

The "Tame Historian" doubted on camera whether Maisy could have fired upon Omaha Beach.

Our dear Friend didn't put up much of a show: leading the viewers into an "AMMUNITION TUNNEL".

Jolly good: on our left we have two big rooms. wiith "the ammunition stacked on steel racks"?

Never seen anything like that before....

Having watched this documentary I have to agree with John. The historian said that he "doubts the battery could reach that far" meaning Omaha Beach.

The annual French trip took us to visit the Maisy Battery last year and , although it is good to see such sights opened up etc. The general feeling amounst the group was that it was nothing special Although it is said that living in the most fortified and complete part of 'Hitler's Atlantikwall' you do tend to see the European sites through 'Rose Tinted Glasses'

Interesting comments on batteries being on the obverse side of a hill being almost imune to naval artillery fire Look at Azeville Battery. It is layed out in the same way behind a hill as Maisy and 'Kasemate 1' recieved a double direct hit from the USS Nevada

Remember that a accurate portrail of history should not be changed or altered by the needs of commercialism

It will be interesting to see how the Maisy site is restored, interprited and evolves over the next few years
