According to Polish sources, the thickness of roof is 48 cm. More photos from the excavation works and from the museum. According to photos, it really looks like an observation cupola to me.AvB wrote:Interesting one Ondrej! Looks like a prototype? Also because of the X, don't think it's a roman number. The turret indeed looks like an unfinished 40P8, but an actual turret would always be completed in the factory, including Schartes. You've found more photos, from the other side?

Re: HILLERSLEBEN
Looks most like a 36P8 for Zeiss optics. But on the inside it's unfinished too. Maybe it was still unfinished in stock and used by the Russian as practice target.

Hi Guys,
Re the double track for Dora? They are not obvious from Google Earth but if you go to "Forum Ubersicht - HVA" you will find "original" plans showing a veritable Marshaling Yard of tracks avail. Although I must say it appears to be single line only at the firing line! But look yourself and be the judge.
Re the funny half dumbbell projectile. It looks exactly like the German version of the dam busters bomb!
Regards
Rob

Re: HILLERSLEBEN
Dora on test bed were test-firing exactly into Spitzenberg/Hillersleben. I'm not sure if it was firing from the main firing line as this rail gun were simply to big. Spitzenberg was natural "Kugelfang".Fides Germania wrote:Hi Guys,

Firing to long distance (for example for making artillery firing table) could take place in Rügenwalde. This is my guerssing but this second testing area provided extra space for long distance shooting (Rügenwalde is place by the see).

The gun with its test bed was located on the H-Platz site, mere 240 m from the Spitzer Berg (or however is the hill called).Andrzej Ditrich wrote: Dora on test bed were test-firing exactly into Spitzenberg/Hillersleben. The steel frame constructions visible in this still photo does not represent tank obstacles but mounts for target plates presenting various preset angles of impact to the incoming (test) shell.Pablo Sela wrote:Tank Obstacles. There's quite a few of these..
