French M.G. in navy lafette

#1

Post by jopaerya » 06 Sep 2006, 11:38

Hello All

There are 2 photo's of what looks are the same gun
in the same mounting , first one a French one in 1940
at Flushing and the other a photo from Germans later
in the war .

Looks to me like a Darne Mle 1922 machine gun , but I
am not sure and does anyone has info on the naval mounting ??

Photo = Ebay.de and Magazine 39/45 No 131

Regards Jos

Hi

Yes they are or the "Darne" type. IIRC the designation with the standard 7.5 x 54 MAS mle 1929 calibre was Darne mle 1933.

Outside of that mount (and retrofitted with appropriate front and rear sights), it looks like it would have been the perfect size as a squad automatic weapon.
He who lives by the sword, should train with it frequently.

Hello,
would love to see a German manual on that MG ( with that special device at the feed side ), as the Darne was normaly feed by a drum magazine. There have been right and left hand side feed MG mounted in Maginot Line Bunkers in a Twin Mount.

The MGs in the Maginot Line were 7.5 MM m 1931F, a modification of the FM 24/29 light machine gun and not related to the Darne MG.
