What were the germans plans for the assault rifle concept? I have read that new ones were designed to appear in late '45 and were better than the stg44. It was said that this new guns would require 50% less material than the stg44. One was supposed to be for the volksturm(sp?) and was easy to handle, while the other was planned for the ss. They never appeared of course, but several examples still exist. Their design is to have impact post world war 2 german weapon designs-like heckler and koch's weapons.
What were the names of these guns, and does anyone have any pictures?

Hi Stg44

The following attachment was taken from 'Small Arms, Artillery and Special Weapons of the Third Reich', by Terry Gander and Peter Chamberlain.
