On picture is serbian soldiers "Serbian Volunteer Corps" (ljoticevci). Picture is taken somewhere in Serbia during ww2.
Is this maybe some kind of MaximG8, or M1908, or 1910M... Czech, Russian, Finnish... I dont know, i would like someone to tell me.

Re: Can you help me identify this Maxim machine gun
I can tell you for certain that it is not Finnish since none were ever exported from Finland. It seems to be most likely German MG-08 (mainly the disk in muzzle brake suggests so), but the tripod seems to be from Schwatzlose model 07/12, which makes it a definetely weird combination.Marisav wrote:Hello,

Yugoslavia captured some MG-08s during final phase of WWI. More came in 1920s as German War reparations, so MG-08 was one of standard Yugoslav Army MG (alongside other commercialy made Maxims at disposal - ex-Serbian, ex-Bulgarian, ex-Turkish & ex-Montenegrin - all modified to 7,92x57mm in 1920s).
Yugoslavia also had more than a thousand Schwartzlose MG - ex-Austro-Hungarian equipment (also later converted to 7.92mm); actually this was the most numerous type in service. Since Yugoslavia inherited ex-AU depots in its territory, I guess there was also spare Schwartzlose MG mounts - as noted, lot of Maxims were War booty, so probably quite a few lacked servisable mounts.
So - nothing unusual. (Swedes used Schwartzlose mounts for their Browning MGs.) This is also wartime photo - so everything goes, including various field-improvised solutions.

Audrew,
Was the first photo (of the German personnel inspecting the rows of MG's) in your post above mine taken in Yugoslavia?
Thanks,
Pat
