MP44 painted sandgelb (sand yellow)?

Post by Dan Mouritzsen » 15 Jan 2009 23:04

Hi

Well it is not every day that you get a gift like this:

1 MP44
1 G43 with a ZF4
2 US M1 Carbine
2 sten guns
And a British air drop container…*

:D :D :D

The strange thing is that the MP44 is painted sandgelb (sand yellow) and it looks original? I know that the Germans sometimes painted/chalked them white, but sand yellow???
Any of you seen that before?

Regards
Dan

*all of above will end up in a museum collection! 8-)

Cheers,
Rik

I brought a MP40 painted in green some years ago and the reason was that it was used by the British army and was to show it was a listed weapon and on their books.
The MP was found in the house of a British army officer vet who had died and his wife found it while cleaning the loft out , it was handed into the police and then sold to a Gun dealer from who i brought it from .

Many years ago at a gunshow I saw a DEWAT MP 38 in tan paint.
It had brown grips and fame cover. Looked cool.

It was high priced at $25.00 at the time.

It could be from a batch sold to some countries in Africa/middle east?
There is a well-known picture of a tribesman holding a MP-44.

Hello

The MP44 was just recently found in Denmark after the death of an old member of the resistance, and handed over to us.

The gun has never left Denmark since 1943-44 and had been in his posession all the time, as well as all the other stuff.

So - no - it is a genuine original German piece of equipment.

And the others (the two Stens and the G43)?

What about the Soviet semi-auto rifle in the first picture?

More info please, sounds like an interesting story!

Hello

All in one lot - from the same source.

All found after the death of this old member of the resistance, together with a lot of papers, maps, also some US carabines, explosives enough to lay his house in ruins etc. etc.

The EOD team had to remove the explosives, and the rest ended up in our museum :D

We are currently trying to put the story together, so we can find out where it all came from. A lot of it has been dropped in containers by the RAF thats for sure, but where did he have the german weapons from?

Stolen from german soldiers or depot maybe?

But what interest us the most is the color of the MP44 - not usually painted in this color?

BTW: "What about the Soviet semi-auto rifle in the first picture?"

This one does not belong to this lot, but has come from another source - just arrived at the same time, and i really do not know its story.

Maybe Dan can fill in here?

Really Strange! There is No logic in painting the 44 that color and more so in Dänemark.
Will be interesting to see what more info you find on it. Perhaps some of his resistance friends are still around and can shed some light on this weapon?

I think it may be a last ditch saving effort, plain paint instead of blueing as normallly done

It is a MP43 and there is bluing under the paint. Please keep in mind that there were several German unit stragglers coming into Denmark late in the war. Several of them have done duty in the southern part of Europe.
