I'd give him a Beretta Model 1934, of which about 40,000 were delivered to the Romanian forces from 1941 on I believe. Marked "CAL. 9 SCURT" instead of "9 mm Corto".

Of course the Romanians used various other handguns as well, such as the Steyr Hahn Model 1912, but that gun would be a bit bulky for a fighter pilot.
