MG 42 1200RPM or 950RPM? Who had which?

So for years I also thought all models of the MG 42 universally fired at 1200rpm but now i'm hearing these days that various models were released with different RPMs. So my question is which models? Were they designated at all? Were they issuing different RPMs from the start or did they start doing this after the weapon's introduction? I know anti-aircraft mounts had the higher RPM models and infantry had the low RPM models but...since when? Was this always planned? Frontline accounts seem to imply the high RPM models were in the hands of the infantry frequently. All those legends of "Hitler's Buzzsaw" had to come from somewhere after all.

I'm unaware of wartime MG42s being at 950 rpm. Post war guns with heavier bolts and larger nozzles had a reduced rate. All of the wartime manuals I've translated for the MG43 state 1200 rpm. What is your source for the issuance of different rates of fire?
