Hi everyone, hope you are all keeping well.
This has probably been discussed before so bear with me.
How prevalent was the G43 semi-automatic rifle, did it see front line action, did only certain units get equipped with it? Being an automatic, did units like the Pz Grenadiers and SS get issued with it?
Some site had over 400.000 being made, which is not bad, but again not that many considering the size of the Germany army.
So bottom line, was this rifle only used by certain troops.
Thanks
Ian

Re: G43
Ian,
Like any battle rifle, it was a general issue rifle for the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe and W-SS, all of whom are present in the photographic record as using it in active combat zones. It was not an 'elite only' issue weapon. To clarify, it was not an automatic, but a semi-automatic weapon.
The rifle itself had many flaws, especially a system that essentially beats itself to death. Still, they're fun to shoot, easy to shoulder and are at least reasonably accurate. They occupy a sort of awkward location between the bolt-action K98k and the select-fire StG-44 series and it's variants.

He who lives by the sword, should train with it frequently.
