MG42 -Maker Codes

Post by Porsche » 18 Jan 2004 19:21

Hi, I have a 42 and I'm trying to get some info on it. Can anybody tell me what maker the manufacturers code (swd) relates to ? I'm told that the letters (NC) relate to a date (?) but what does the 1483p mark mean ?

NC
MG 42
1483 p
swd

Thanks, Neil :?

Hi Niel,
For all the info you will ever need, get your self a copy of 'MG.34/42' book
I think Amazon have it.
Manufacturers were......
Grossfuss
Mauser (byf)
Maget, Berlin (cra)
Gustloff
Suhl
and Steyr
These are the only makers codes that i know. Sorry.

The 1483p is the serial no. for that particular weapon.
Not sure about 'NC'.

Hope this is of some help.

Steve.

Steve, thanks is the book by Folke Myervang ? I've heard that this is a good book to get hold of, but haven't been able to see one yet. I have two books with the makers codes listed, but neither of them have 'swd'.

swd = 'Maget' Maschinen- u. Geratebau GmbH, Berlin Tegel.
He who lives by the sword, should train with it frequently.
