Hint:
Manufacturer is mostly known for producing high end civilian firearms... and a glorious dead end in assault rifle development.

That´s correct.
A 1939 Krieghoff proto as illustrated in DWJ 09/2005.

Grenade rifle but not Italian.
Not far removed from Italy though, geographically speaking. The converted rifle was an experimental turnbolt which wasn´t accepted for general service, probably due to lack of funds.
