I like to know about the German army land soldiers' names and their deeds that won them the Preussisches Goldenes Militar-Verdienst-Kreuz during World War I. I know a few land soldiers of the Kaiser's Marine had won that prized medal as well. Bernhard-Hermann Ramcke was one of them. Can anyone find time to give quite a few examples please? Thank you.

I know that plenty of the winners of that high Prussian gold cross medal went to NCO's and privates that destroyed British and French tanks with their artillery cannons, mines, and anti-tank rifles. German snipers with over 100 sniper kills to their credit might be among the winners of that gold cross.
I patiently wait for the names of the award.

As I understand that most of the Prussian gold cross medal that were awarded during WWI was the year 1918. I take it that the land soldiers who won the high award were not well known as those of the pilots and observers. There were German sailors aboard ships and U-boats that were holders of the Prussian gold cross medal as well.

The first instance of an award of the Golden Military Cross of Prussia of World War I occurred on October 15,1916 when it went to an infantryman,Vizefeldwebel Georg Dulz. Then almost another year went by until the second award was made, this to another man in the trenches on June 14,1917. What was the name of that second German infantryman? For German Army ground troops in total for World War I were numbered 1,673. How many for the German Naval ground troops I don't know. There were 12 men from the U-Boats that won the Golden Military Cross of Prussia. The time should come to name some German infantrymen who won the high cross awards and the deeds that accompany them. Please contribute.

The first recipient was Georg Dülz, not Dulz, from IR 68. He was born on 22.05.1889 in Salzig, St. Goar. He was wounded several times and was taken prisoner in late 1916.

The second was Otto Bansemer, Offizier-Stellvertreter in IR 20, on 14.06.1917. He was born on 25.01.1889 in Abbau Baldenburg, Schlochau and died of wounds on 26.07.1917 in Bucy-les-Pierrepont.

On 11.07.1917, four more awards were made:

• Johann Tomiczny, Unteroffizier, GR 10
• Arnold Lindeken, Vizefeldwebel, 3.GRzF
• Adolf Backhaus, Offizier-Stellvertreter, RIR 74
• Willy Wolf, Vizefeldwebel, 4.GRzF

Tomiczny was born on 01.12.1890 in Ratiborhammer, Ratibor and died on 08.10.1941. He was wounded at least three times. He also received the Sachsen-Meiningen Ehrenmedaille für Verdienst im Kriege.

Lindeken was born on 07.07.1892 in Rüttenscheid, Essen and died on 29.03.1958 in Essen.

Backhaus was a native Oldenburger, *05.12.1885 in Beverbruch, Cloppenburg, and was wounded at least four times. He no doubt also received decorations from Oldenburg.

Wolf was born in Ruhlsdorf, Niederbarnim and was wounded at least twice.

I need information of a Golden Military Cross holder named Karl Haug who was a German pilot of WWI. What I knew about him was that he was born in the year 1880. How many years that Haug had been in German aviation? What was the reason he was given the Golden Military Cross?

Edward,

I hope this is helpful.
Haug, Karl Offizier-Stellvertreter Flieger-Abtl. (A) 207
Awarded after more than 120 enemy flights, with more than 100 artillery batteries fired in. On May 14, 1918, he and his observer managed to fight down five enemy batteries despite the most difficult conditions.

Gentleman,

Do you have information on the life of Ernst Dorn? Like what year when he was born? I don't suppose had you have a photo of Ernst Dorn when he was a petty officer of the German U-boat service? By the way, thank you for the information of Karl Haug the German aviator.
