The officer on the far left is Erwin Rommel.French village 1917.

All I have left is this 1918 photo.Rommel with Pour le Merite.
He looks unwell.

Here is a picture of Rommel in the Alpenkorps in WW1.
In fact taken in the early thirties when the then Major Rommel was commanding the III.(Jäger)/17. Infanterie-Regiment at Goslar.
