Major Argyropoulos
Major Argyropoulos
Good Morning,
does any body have any information about a certain Major Thrasybulus Argyropoulos who served in Stab/Ulanen Regiment 18.I stumbled upon the man in a list of Saxon decorations and I was left wondering about his biography.
regards
Matt

Re: Major Argyropoulos
Thrasybulus Demetrius Argyropoulos, born 4 December 1875 in Meran, Tirol, Austria-Hungary (now in Italian South Tirol).
30.07.1894 Leutnant
19.09.1900 Oberleutnant
21.09.1907 Rittmeister
14.07.1915 Major
07.12.1920 char. Oberstleutnant a.D.
In 1914, he was the Eskadron-Chef of 2./HR 18. He then went to the regimental staff and then in November 1915 to the staff of UR 18. Around June 1916, he was severely wounded and fell into Russian captivity. In February 1917, he was returned to Germany in a prisoner exchange of wounded prisoners. He was placed zur Disposition on 26 January 1919 and retired on 31 March 1920.
His decorations include the Knight's Cross of the Saxon Military St. Henry Order, the Knight 1st Class with Swords of the Saxon Albrecht Order, the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd Class, a peacetime Saxe-Ernestine House Order Knight 1st Class with Swords, and a peacetime Austro-Hungarian Franz-Josef Order Knight's Cross. I would guess he also received the Iron Cross 1st Class, but I don't have a reference for that.
Regards

Hi
To complete the work of Dave, here are some dates of awards
SH3 : 2 MArch 1917,
SA3aX : 30 November 1915,
EK2 : 20 September 1914,
EH3a : 28 Septembre 1912,
ÖFJ3 : 12 May 1906.
he's never received EK1
A small mistake has been done in the Dave's work, this officer has not received the S on the Ernestine knight cross 1st class.

Re: Major Argyropoulos
You are right Christophe! I write "with Swords" or "mit Schwertern" so many times in wartime discussions that I sometimes do it out of habit.Deruelle wrote:A small mistake has been done in the Dave's work, this officer has not received the S on the Ernestine knight cross 1st class.

Re: Major Argyropoulos
Interested in answering open questions to Thrasy Argyropoulos
Dear All,
Just by accident my brother bumped into your blog and I am just answering for him (and of all of T. Argyropoulos 9 grandchildren...).
Maybe we are too late for your questions but it would be interesting in being able to answer your question /keeping in touch with you.
Also, I never wrote a blog etc, hoping to do everything ok.
Best regards,
Elisabeth Roeder
