GenMj Gereke

There was a GenMj Gereke and Gouvernuer v Warcschau mentioned here:

https://www2.landesarchiv-bw.de/ofs21/o ... 02.002.001

A few lines down there were further documents from the more well known Ulrich v Etzdorff, Gouverneur v Warschau. Was GenMj Gereke his successor?

There was only a GenLt aD Gereke in the 1914 and 1926 rangliste (I assume Eugen Bernhard Karl 1856 -1935) that was Inspk d Art Depot Inspk Berlin 1914 and then Gen d Fußartillerie b AOK 9 (presumably a functional title and not a rank) as the last post he held during the War.

I can certainly associate AOK 9 with Warschau. So our GenMj was the same man as the GenLt aD?

Cheers

Elwyn,

I think it likely he was v. Etdorff's predecessor as at the time of the capture of Warsaw in early August 1915, he was commanding a temporary division of Landsturm and dismounted artillery formations in the investment of that place. That being the case, he would have been in Warsaw at the capitulation and presumably was temporary Governor until Etzdorff's appointment later in the month. He retired on 8 August 1916 from his "von der Armee" status having lastly been 9th Army's General of Foot Artillery.

Regards
Glenn

That's very useful added info which would have been hard to find.
