Post by ckleisch » 12 May 2003 00:16

Does anyone have any information on Hessian Army uniforms in use at the beginning of WWI? I am seeking any descriptions and or photos if available.

The Hessians wore the standard Waffenrock, with blue piping on the shoulder straps.Brandenburg cuffs worn on the M1910 tunic. There belt buckle was different from the 'Gott mit uns' type and had a Hessian Crown insignia.Their Feldmutze had the standard Deutsche Cockade on top, with the lower state one being White-Red-White.

The shoulderstrap's had red regimental numbers for the 118th and 168th Hessen Regiments. The Leib-Garde 115th regiment, the 116th Regiment, and the 117th Leib Regiment all had differing red monogram insignia.
