Have seen both in conversion tables.
with both Korvettenkapitän and Fregattenkapitän indicated as Commander.
I thought the latter two were Lt-Commander and Commander respectively with Kaleun as Lt. Senior Grade
Which is it?
Kapitänleutnant = USN Sr. Lieutenant or Lt-Commander?

I am reading some ONI reports from the era and they translate Kaleun as Lt.-Cmdr. So thought to ask. Also, Fregattenkapitän is listed as a rank between Commander and Captain. This is from the 1930s.

The Kaleun (Kapitänleutnant) is the Lieutenant ( would be NATO Code OF2 today)
The Korvetten Kapitän is the Lieutenant Commander (would be OF3)
The Fregatten Kapitän is the Commander (would be OF4)
The Korvetten Kapitän is the Lieutenant Commander (would be OF3)
The Fregatten Kapitän is the Commander (would be OF4)
