Reichsrevolver unit marking help

#1

Post by Johann_Hoffmann » 16 May 2018, 20:34

So I just picked this Reichsrevolver today from my local gun store a "I got to have it" impulse buy for 100 bucks and I knew enough to know what it is but the unit markings has me completely unsure what the initials mean. they are 1. M. 3. G.R. 116. I know from other posts the 116 should be the regimental number and the R I have seen on other forums say the style or R means reserve but I can't figure out what unit it would be if true as I can't find a reserve unit with a G. Any help is much appreciated!

This is my first attempt at deciphering unit markings, but I read it as "l.M.8.G.R.116" with the first letter a lower case L. Using Jeff Noll's book "The Imperial German Regimental Marking". "l.M.8.G.R" would be "leichte Munitionskollonne der 8. Abteilung des Garde-Reserve-Regiment" (Light Munitions Column attached to the 8th Detatchment Garde Reserve Regiment" and 116 would be the Waffe Nummer (weapon number). I hope someone corrects me, if I am wrong.
