What was the name of the German ground unit which Ernst Freiherr von Althaus (Plm) returned to after he left the German Army Air Service? On October 15,1918 his unit was surrounded by American soldiers and he was forced to surrender with the last 15 survivors of his company. Althaus' ground company must have resisted strongly against the American ground attacks. Althaus had gotten the Army Wound Badge in Black and a few other decorations during his service with the ground troops late 1918. Althaus was a POW until early 1919. When did Althaus finally retired from the military and with what rank?

Re: Ernst Freiherr von Althaus' Ground Unit
OTF 29-2 which has an article on him has him in the 103rd Infantry Regiment from Aug-15 Oct 1918 as a Platoon Leader at first then commander of the 9th Company
Re: Ernst Freiherr von Althaus' Ground Unit
He's listed twice in the verlustlisten for 1919, both times as an Oberleutnant with the unit stated in post #3.
