During the day the main road to Lombardsijde coudl not be used, only by night,
thus the Germans going to the front in daylight used this covered trench between Westende and Middelkerke

Interesting pictures CNOCK,the way the trenches look too,all that wood and not much mud by the looks,is it sand or soft dirt of some type they are in then?.

The leading German maritime artist Willy Stöwer(1864-1931) visited the Marinekorps in 1915.

These sketches are from a German publication at the time.
