....from 4/10/1908 until 27/9/1911 he was on S.M.S. DEUTSCHLAND (2 years and 359 days)

on 2/8/1914 he was mobilized for 2nd Marine Division,
and fought in Flanders with 5th Matrosen Rgt, ( machine gun cie)

He was involved in the sea war for the defence of the Belgian coast, fighting at the coast, Strandfest, Battle for Flanders (19187) Ypres Salient(1918),...

on 26/4/1918 he earned the Iron Cross 2nd Class;

I dont think there are any in this thread,but where can i find some maps of the marine divisons in WW1 on the western front(it was only there right and not the others,forget?).Like maybe small units overseas with the navy or in china etc...,and it was only the 1st and 2nd marine divsions that where stationed near the coast of belguim i think right only and stayed there most of the war.

Another while im here,are there any records of how many men they lost in WW1,like maybe not as many as the other divsions possibly being closer to the coast.But then think i read somewhere they did go further inland(not shure how far?) and fight in the trenches there,thanks for any info.

For a brief start :

29/8/1914 : Marine Division raised

15/11/1914 ;
1st Marine Division (Konteradmiral Schültz, later Vizeadmiral Jacobsen)
2nd Marine Division (Vize Konteradmiral Jasper)

september 1916 : Marine Infantry Brigade to the Somme, back in January 1917

in 1917 : New 3rd Marine Division (Graf Moltke) with the 3 Marine Infantry Rgts
became part of Gruppe Staden during 3rd Battle of Ypres.
Took part in the March 1918 offensive. in France. Did not return to Flanders.
