Two Reichswehr Period Abbreviations

#1

Post by Feldpost » 30 Jul 2020, 18:37

I am unable to figure out two abbreviations in the military career summary of a Reichswehr Leutnant I am researching. He served with the 12. (Sächsisches) Reiter-Regiment, a cavalry unit. Both entries are from the Reichswehr period. The first entry is from 1 December 1931 that reads: Bef. d. A. Gr. C. 8. (Befehl der Armee-Gruppe C 8, By Order of Army Group C 8). Can anyone tell me anything about this Army Group? The other entry is from 24 June 1932, which reads: M.K.F. 3b. I thought this might refer to a military driver’s license (Militär-Kraftfahrzeug-Führerschein), but I no longer think so. It seems to be some kind of certificate that he received. I found one other mention of this abbreviation on the Internet for Hans Remer, who was also affiliated with the cavalry at the time he received it:

I hope someone can answer my questions.

It's mentioned in this thread as being "Militär-Kraftfahrzeug-Führerschein".

Thanks Ken. I did some more research and found a contemporary reference for M.K.F., which is the abbreviation for Militär-Kraftfahrer:

Reichswehr in 1932 had Gruppenkommando 1 (6 divisions) and Gruppenkommando 2 (4 divisions). But I have no idea what C8 means.

Thanks luckystrike78. I did a little more poking around on the Internet and got one step closer. The soldier I am researching was in a cavalry unit as mentioned. The abbreviation actually refers to an Armee-Gruppen-Commando (Army Group Command), which I found in a contemporary German military reference. I only wish I could find more on the specific Armee-Gruppen-Commando, that is, Armee-Gruppen-Commando 8.

Another strange fact:

I read: "neues R.d.A. (Rangdienstalter) vom 01.08.1931". This actually had to come from the Army Personnel Office and not from a large unit.

Not exactly. The soldier was promoted to Leutnant on 10 December 1931 and given rank seniority from 1 June 1931. Another document among his records explains why. He was twenty-five on 10 December 1931 and was considered somewhat überaltert (too old) to attain this rank. Therefore, his seniority date was moved up to a few days before his twenty-fifth birthday, that is, 1 June 1931. To me, using the soldier's Dienstlaufbahn (Military Career Summary), it's clear that this order was given by Armee-Gruppen-Commando 8; I'm hoping to learn a little more about this Army Group.
