German opposition to Austria-Hungary's annexation of Bosnia

Post by Cantankerous » 22 Aug 2020 20:12

It's well known that Germany stood by Austria-Hungary when Gavrilo Princip shot to death Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife to express his fierce opposition to Vienna annexing Bosnia. However, I'm wondering if there were any figures in the German government and military as well as ordinary German citizens who opposed the move by Austria-Hungary to make Bosnia part of its empire given Russia and Serbia's belief that Slavic peoples in the Balkans who lived under the yoke of the Austro-Hungarian monarch had a right to self-determination.

Do not recall at this moment. Believe H.Hollweg mentions political persons who were opposed in his book "The First World War: Germany and Austria-Hungary 1914-1918 "

IIRC as AH was the aggressor, Germany did not have to declare war by treaty terms.
