Rossarzt Robert Reff Kürassier Regiment 7 von Seydlitz in Halberstad 1894-1896

Hello, someone could find any photograph or picture of the Rossarzt Robert Reff, who was between 1894 and 1896 in the Kürassier Regiment N°7 "von Seydlitz" in Halberstadt ?

Before he was Unter-Rossarzt in the Kürassier Regiment "Königin" (Pommersches) N°2 in Passewalk, between 1891 and 1893.

This Rossarzt was contracted for the Chilean Goverment in September 1896 to create the Military Veterinary School, like a copy of the Militär-Rossarztschule zu Berlin with the class plan of the Königliche Thierärztliche Hochschule zu Berlin.

unfortunately very little information is available regarding the careers of veterinary officials of this period. I can tell you that he was promoted to Roßarzt on transfer to Kürassier-Regiment Nr. 7 from Kürassier-Regiment Nr. 2 on 19 January 1894 and left active service on 4 September 1896. Apart from mentioning his entry into Chilean service, his very brief entry in the history of Kürassier-Regiment Nr. 7 adds nothing further.

A brief notice in the "Archiv für Wissenschaftliche und Praktische Thierheilkunde" of 1897 (attached) mentions his appointment as a government veterinarian in Santiago.

Another request.

I understand at that time some students of Königliche Thierärztliche Hochschule Berlin where Militair-veterinär Eleve (aspirants to military veterinarians) who belong to the Militär-Roßarztschule, where they were sended for Cavalry Units like grant or award for some good Einjahr Freiwilliger.

I found this 2 pictures of veterinay magazines with information about Robert REFF:
1. He got his condition of Veterinarian at 31 December 1890.
2. During 1890 he was nominated as Unter-Roßarzt in Kürassier Regiment N°2 "Königin" (Pommersches).

So my request is the following:
Reff was a Militair-Rossarzt Eleve sended for a Regiment to study Veterinary and after become Unter-Rossarzt or first was Veterinarian (civilian) and then become Unter-Rossarzt??

Robert REFF was born in Greifenberg, Pommern at 12 NOV 1866.

he would have studied veterinary medicine at the Militäir-Roßarztschule as an "Eleve" (already a soldier). After his graduation examinations he was posted as an Unter-Roßarzt to Kürassier-Regiment Königin.

Thanks, I think so, but how to know which Regiment sent him to the Militair Rossarztschule?

I found that in Greifenberg (city of Reff) was the 4. squadron of the Neumärkisches Dragoner Regiment N°3.

Hi Alexander,

Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 3 may well have been his original regiment. An aspirant military veterinarian had first to enter a cavalry, artillery or train unit as a volunteer and after initial basic training and further training in horse-shoeing attend a course at the military smithy. During this time the soldier was still on the establishment of his regiment. Following successful completion of this course and entry to the Militär-Roßarztschule, he left his original unit and was then on the establishment of the school. After the final veterinary examinations he would be promoted to Unterroßarzt and assigned to the army "according to its needs" - in Robert Reff's case, the Königin Kürassiere. It will be extremely difficult to ascertain his original regiment with any certainty but DR 3 is not unlikely.
