here is Roßarzt Rudolph Drews assigned to Dragoner-Regiment von Bredow (1. Schlesisches) Nr. 4 around 1896/1897.

Alexander,

that is because he is wearing his Überrock with shoulder boards and not the Waffenrock (tunic) with epaulettes (parade dress).

Here is a portrait of Roßarzt Wagner of the Royal Württemberg Army (XIII Corps). The uniform is almost identical to the Prussian apart form the piping on the epaulette bridle and the wear of the Württemberg helmet. Image from Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg.
