I don't think there's anything out there. :(

You could try and purchase the "Histories of the 251 German Divisions...",the 2001 reprint is not cheap and contains some faulty info but otherwise the outlook is limited.

Thanks Moulded

The £28 could be better spent, surprised there's nothing online, if just basic info!

Thanks again

There is something out there in the web about German (and Austro-Hungarian) Army... I hope that you will find them useful.

Try these:

Austro-Hungarian Army : http://www.austro-hungarian-army.co.uk/index.htm

German Army: http://home.comcast.net/~jcviser/index.htm/ and also http://www.users.hunterlink.net.au/~maampo/militaer/armtoc.html

I'd consider these as a starting point and would suggest you to carefully browse through the links section of these websites. I'm pretty confident that you will find plenty of information for your research.

Best regards

WW1 German orders of battle

Post by Frosch » 09 Dec 2003 12:51

Although it will probably take me a couple of years to complete, I have made a start on basic overviews of the German infantry and cavalry divisions 1914-1918.

Progress on the divisional and other higher-level orbats will be tied to the rate at which I can research, write and post basic summaries of the documents in my collection. I've got more than 100 in the pipeline, which easily covers soldiers that fought with more than 70 of the divisions listed (of a total of 257).

Any help in transcribing this info would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has lists of engagements in file format or something that can be scanned well by an OCR system, I would love to hear from you.

Comments on the format or method of presentation (and any spelling mistakes and transcription errors) would also be appreciated. I hope to re-hash the the HTML and CSS soon so that the pages are better structured and print well (not the case at the moment).

Take a look at what there is so far: German infantry divisions 1914-1918 and German cavalry divisions 1914-1918
