He had lived 102 years (1856-1958) and was member of the german general staff.
Can anyone provide any info about him?

AHLF,

Hermann Josef Kuhl was born on the 2nd of November 1856 as the son a of a Gymnasium teacher in Koblenz. He studied classical literature and languages at Leipzig, Tübingen, Berlin and Marburg and then entered Infantry Regiment Nr. 53 on the 1st of October 1878 and was commissioned as a Sekonde-Lieutenant on the 12th of August 1879. He successfully graduated from the War Academy and became a General Staff Officer being promoted to Premier-Lieutenant 16th of February 1889 and to Hauptmann on the 14th of September 1892. He served four years as a company commander in Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 3 at Königsberg followed by an assignment as an instructor in tactics and military history at the War Academy. Promoted to Major on the 13th of September 1899, Oberstleutnant on the 10th of April 1906 and to Oberst on the 24th of March 1909. He was head of the 3rd department of the General Staff and briefly the commander of the 25th Infantry Brigade at Münster from 3rd June 1913 to the 29th of June 1914. Promoted to Generalmajor on the 4th of June 1912 and raised to the nobility on the 16th of June 1913, the outbreak of war again found him in the Great General Staff as a department chief. On mobilisation Generalmajor Dr. Phil von Kuhl became chief of staff of the 1st Army under Generaloberst von Kluck. He was chief of staff of the 12th Army from 22nd September 1915 to 23rd November 1915 and of the 6th Army from 24th November 1915 to 27th August 1916. From 28th August 1916 until the end of the war he was chief of staff of Army Group Crown Prince of Bavaria.

Promoted to Generalleutnant on the 18th April 1915 he was awarded the Order Pour le Mérite on the 28th of August 1916 and the Oak Leaves on the 20th of December 1916. He retired with the rank of General der Infanterie at the wars end and published the two volume work "Der Weltkrieg 1914-1918" in 1929 and 1930. He was also awarded the Order Pour le Mérite "für Wissenschaften und Künste" (for the sciences and the arts) in 1924. He died on the 4th of November 1958 at Frankfurt am Main.

All,

Aside from the Pour le Merite with Oakleaves, what other awards did he receive? I believe he received the commander's cross of the Bavarian MMJO, but don't know the others. TIA.
