Hmm...

It was kind of a cold war against the catholic church in germany, bismarck taking away the power of catholic dignitaries by several laws, against the will of the citizens. Civil marriage was made obligate. When Bismarck made laws that no priest canwork without having permission by the state and several were arrested, the pope interfered by declaring these laws to be invalid. This resulted in the "Brotkorbgesetz" when germany stopped giving money to the catholic bishoprics which brought them in money problems.
That's all I know :D

That's partially right just the date isn't exact. In 1883 it was just a trading post.

on April 24th 1884 Bismarck informs the imperial german consul in Capetown by telegraph, that Lüderlitz' possesions are under imperial german protection.

on Aug. 7th 1884 the imperial german flag is hoisted over Lüderlitz' trading post.

i'd say the first date is more relvant.

Unit Identification

#28

Post by Glenn2438 » 25 Jan 2004, 19:01

This Saxon unit was formed on the 1st of April 1887 and based at Wurzen. It was only in existence for a limited number of years and its personnel used to form another unit.

1. What was it's name?
2. When was it disbanded?
3. Which unit did it's personnel then form?

Regards
Glenn

Glenn always digs out really difficult stuff :D

I think it's the 3. Königlich Sächsisches Jägerbataillon Nr.15, disolved 01.04.1900. Don't know what the units formed then, maybe integrated in the Schützenregiment Prinz Georg?

Post by Glenn2438 » 25 Jan 2004, 20:33

A good effort from Robert :D

the 3. Königlich Sächsisches Jägerbataillon Nr.15 became the 1st Battalion of the 15. Königlich Sächsisches 15. Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 181.

Back to you.

Regards
Glenn
