Garde photo 1914

Post by Peter H » 18 Apr 2004 08:26

A famous photo from 1914;German Garde(with Litzen) mobilised in Berlin.

I always thought this photo was taken in early August 1914 but if you check out the toddler being held on the right, the name Hindenburg appears on his cap. Conclusion, post Battle of Tannenberg then, perhaps September 1914.

Would it be correct then to conclude that these are reinforcements from a Garde Depot? The Garde Reserve Corps was also being moved from west to east in September 1914 but under wartime conditions I can't see their movement being publicised nor going via Berlin and known to family members.
