Artillery School in Jüterbog

Post by Tim » 15 May 2004 12:43

Does anyone know anything about an artillery school in Jüterbog, in 1916?

I would be very interested in any information on the school, if it exists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Tim

Jüterbog, near Berlin, was established as the Prussian School of Artillery in 1867,updated to an Imperial role in 1871.One of the driving forces behind the school of gunnery was General Gustav Eduard Von Hindersin(1804-1872).

The school continued in its crucial role of training artillery officers until 1945.

Thank you very much for your help Moulded! My great grand father was at Jüterbog for three months, in 1916. He was originally from Darmstdt, and serving in France, before going to Jüterbog. Is there a reason why he went to an officer traing school near Berlin? Were there other schools that were closer?

Thanks again,

Tim

Tim,
Jüterbog became the artillery school of the German empire, taking candidates from Prussia,Bavaria,Saxony etc.A similar central role is still carried out at the US Fort Sill Artillery School complex in America(since 1911).Meanwhile the German Navy also had its own Artillery School near Kiel.

A common point of both Jüterbog and Fort Sill is the flat terrain they occupy, assisting gunnery practice and such.
