German camo pattern?
German camo pattern?
Hi there,
I'm sure most of you know the famous german camo pattern which you can find on helmets and tanks from time to time.
So, my question now is: Does anyone know the exakt name of this pattern? were there maybe uniforms painted like that? or zeltbahns or whatever?

German camouflage
It is called a lozenge pattern. I don't know of any uniforms with the pattern though.
I've seen photos of German steel ammunition boxes also painted in the multi-coloured camouflage scheme.
Order II.No.91 366 signed by Ludendorff on the 7 July 1918 stipulated that helmets should be painted in several colours, all in keeping with the relevant seasons. For example in summer the ideal was green, yellow ochre and rust brown, separated by a finger-wide black line. The 'Lozenge' was the factory applied camouflage scheme as adopted, but many helmets did not comply with the order, due to the individual painting skill and preference of the front line troops of July 1918.Pattern shapes varied dramatically with the only thing in common being the black divide.
Something on German artillery colours as well:

Lozenge pattern camoflague was used for aircraft. The pattern was preprinted onto the cloth to minimise the weight from using mult-coloured dopes. The idea was that the predominant colour of the background would determine which of the multiple colours became most prominent, thereby allowing the aircraft to blend with different backgrounds.
