Hi. I am trying to find out a little (anything) about this unit, particularly its operations on the Somme in late September. Perhaps some-one could point me to a few references? Much thanks. Luke

Luke,
The 1 BIR was part of the 1st Bavarian Division in 1916.My source(Divisions of the German Army which Participated in the War) states that after action at Verdun in May-July 1916 the division went to the rest sector of St Mihiel. It then moved to the Somme,in action October 13 to the end of November.

Interesting that the Australian Official History mentions the 1st Bavarian Division encountering the Australians at Mouquet Farm in August 1916.However this is an error;the 3rd Bavarian RIR mentioned in action there was part of the 1st Bavarian Reserve Division.

Regards,
Moulded
