Trying To Find Original Source For This Imperial Navy Art

#1

Post by noshuffle » 31 Aug 2004, 20:07

I have come across these sketches on the web, and I am trying to find out what the original source is. I don't know if this is the entire series or who any of the artists are. I would love to get a proper reproduction of all of them if possible.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I'm having a painting done by a gentleman who used to do paintings for those at the Uboat School, but these don't look like any of his works.

What was the website you got them from?

I believe they were drawn by Oscar Parkes and are featured in "German Warships of World War I" which is basically a reprint of British intelligence documents at the time

Source Of Pictures

Gwynn

I found the pictures at this site:

http://www.geocities.com/heartland/1185/index.html

on this page in particular:

http://www.geocities.com/heartland/1185/ignships.html

The site is pretty old and hasn't been updated for years. I tried to email the author at two different addresses I could find associated with him, but they both seem to be defunct. :(

I have seen some of the images on other sites as well, when I was searching through Google's and Altavista's image search, but usually just little thumbnails.

I looked up the book, dmilford, and you seem to be correct. Amazon has some pages of the book, and the back cover has the same type of sketches on it.

Thanks for the effort and the info!
