Hi Peter!
There is some confusion arrising from the photo you've shown which stems from the similarity in "fractur" font between "f" and "s". I can find no reference to a General von Hülfen, but as AJK indicated there were two Generals von Hülsen. Robert G. L. Waite in his Vanguard of Nazism indicates that Generalleutnant Bernhard von Hülsen headed up the von Hülsen Freikorps and was second in command at the battle of Annaberg in Silesia, but another (French) source states that it was General der Infanterie Walter von Hülsen:

04/07/14 Generalmajor puis 22/03/18 Generalleutnant puis 16/06/21 General der Infanterie honoraire avec effet rétroactif au 01/10/20 Walter Rudolf Hugo Alexander von Hülsen (1863-1947) (+ 2 GM): Croix de l'Ordre "Pour le Mérite" (09/04/18), chef de la 43 brigade (-30/07/16), puis chef de la 19 division (30/07/16-). [Avant la guerre: 43 brigade (04/07/14-).] [Après la guerre: 19 division (-19), corps libre von Hülsen (19), 10 brigade (15/05/19-01/10/20), Gruppenkommando 2 (01/10/20-03/08/21), 03/08/21 en retraite.]
However, Ernst von Salomon, in his Geschichte der Deutsche Freikorps Kämpfer speaks of a Generalleutnant von Hülsen as Commander of the Hülsen Freikorps and includes a photo which bears no resemblence whatsoever to the one in your post.
So I am inclined to think that the General in your photo was General der Infanterie Walter von Hülsen, and that the above quoted French source was confused.
Perhaps Durand can shed some brighter light on the issue, as he has a wealth of knowledge concerning the Freikorps.

Hülsen
Hi Walter,
that would indeed appear to be the later General der Infanterie Walter von Hülsen (20.05.1863 - 13.03.1947). He eventually rose to command the Reichsheer Gruppenkommando II at Kassel. He was awarded the PLM as the commander of the 19th Infantry Division on the Somme on the 9.4.1918. The photograph above predates his 22.03.1918 promotion to Generalleutnant and award of the PLM.
Generalleutnant Bernhard von Hülsen ( 20.04.1865 - 21.04.1950) commanded Freikorps von Hülsen.
Regards
Glenn
