char. Generalmajor Hermann Ritter von Lenz. Born 23.06.1872 at Neu-Ulm, died 20.12.1959 at Munich.

A Bavarian infantry officer who entered the Bavarian Army in August 1890. After general staff training he served in various general staff appointments including a tour as an instructor at the War Academy from October 1911 until the outbreak of war. A Major since 26.10.1911 (Patent of 28.10.12) he was appointed as the operations officer (Ia) of I. Bavarian Reserve Corps on 02.08.1914. He remained on very senior general staff appointments throughout the war:

Operations Officer - 6th Army: 10.06.1916
Operations Officer - Army Group Kronprinz Rupprecht: 28.08.1916
Chief of Staff - I. Bavarian Reserve Corps: 24.12.1916
Chief of Staff - 6th Army: 28.08.1917

In August 1918 he was assigned to the Bavarian War Ministry and briefy commanded the 4th Bavarian Infantry Regiment from 02.09.1918 - 02.10.1918 when he was severely wounded. He retired on 30.05.1921.

Awarded the PLM on 10.04.1918 and the Bavarian MMJO 09.04.1917 with its associated award of personal (non herediatry) nobility.

05.03.1892: Sekondelieutenant/Leutnant
19.09.1900: Oberleutnant
15.08.06: Hauptmann (Patent - 23.06.1907)
26.10.1911: Major (Patent -28.10.1912)
17.04.1917: Oberstleutnant

27.08.1939: char. Generalmajor

Generalmajor Gottfried Marquard, born 02.06.1864 in Braunschweig, died 09.10.1918 in Bad Homburg.

A Prussian infantry officer who entered Infantry Regiment 97 in October 1883. By the outbreak of war he was already an Oberst (22.04.1014) and a department head on the Great General Staff. On mobilisation he was appointed Chief of Staff of X Reserve Corps until severely wounded on the 28.08.1914. He held the following major staff appointments during the war:

Chief of Staff XXXIX Reserve Corps: 24.12.1914
Chief of Staff Army Group Gallwitz: 18.03.1915
Chief of Staff 12th Army: 07.08.1915
Chief of Staff 11th Army: 30.09.1915
Chief of Staff VII Reserve Corps: 20.03.1916
Chief of Staff VI Corps: 04.06.1916

He was unemployed from 27.08.1916 until appointed as Director of Replacements in the War Office on 01.11.1916. Promoted to Generalmajor on 18.08.1917 he was appointed to command the 232nd Infantry Division on 03.02.1918. Relieved on health grounds on 28.09.1918 he died shortly afterwards.

Awarded the PLM on 27.09.1916

General der Infanterie Erich von von Tschischwitz, 17.05.1870 - 26.09.1958. Erich von Tschischwitz was a general staff trained Prussian infantry officer who by the outbreak of the war was commanding a battalion in Infantry Regiment Nr. 157. He served on various senior

staff positions throughout the war including:

Chief of Staff XXIII Reserve Corps: 27 Oct 1914 - 20 Sep 1917
Chief of Staff 2nd Army: 27 Feb 1918 - 10 Aug 1918
Commander 172nd Infantry Brigade: 1 Sep 1918 - 26 Feb 1919

Following the war he remained in the newly formed Reichsheer becoming the Inspector of motorised troops from 1 Oct 1919 - 1 Feb 1923 and then commander of Wehrkreis II/2. Division until finally appointed as commander of Group 1 on 1 Feb 1927 until 1 April 1929.

Awarded the PLM on 09.11.1917 and the OPLM on 23.2.1918

Hauptmann: 22.03.02

This is a Foto of my Grandpa, General Walter von Hülsen, who was later on General der Infanterie und Kommandierender General of Gruppenkommando II.
The before World War II in Germany used "Sütterlin"-Letters knew an "s" similar to "f"

Gen. Fritz von Lossberg far from being "little known" was legendary as
"the fireman of the Western Front". He was the foremost German expert on defensive warfare ( defense-in-depth )+
