Hi Valdis,

He had to be a VIP in Württemberg. He had next to his EK the Württemberg Verdienstorden and on his breast pocket the Verdienstorden der Württemberg Krone. If you muck around with the contrast off your photo editor, the back of this pic had a stamp that clearly read Stuttgart.

None of the XIIL Krops Kmdrs or 26 ID or 27 ID Kmdrs.

He also had Löwenorden Kolonien

Cheers
Elwyn

Well done, Glenn, thank you. Rommel's kommandeur and Rommel of course had the PLM and Verdienstorden.

How about him, an older field officer. Could it be Hermann v Balcke? Born 1865 and "Tannenberg" general in 39

Gentlemen, may I present to you PLM Karl v Lewinski, here as GenMj and Kmdr 211 ID!! :P :P :P

Source is Corbis. Caption said Boehn -- I made the educated guess this was as Kmdr AOK 7 in 1917 before 2nd Battle of Marne. Then caption said v Lewinsky at Coucy Le Chateau -- spelling mistake in his name. According to History of 251 Divisions and Biblio, I tracked v Lewinski back to specifically Vauxaillon and Soisson. All three towns are on the western part of the Marne Salient to be fought over in 1918.

So there you have it. You can even see his PLM jutting out :P

Indeed.
http://www.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/helios/ ... ungen.html

I have gone through quite a chunk of it. The AOK 10 Zeitung (off the beaten track) and Daheim (can't believe a person of your stature have not seen most of these) are the better ones.

Incidentally, there was this Sauberzweig (left) in Daheim. I am shocked that it agreed with the one on the right shown in Osprey at St Quentin with v Hutier --- I had always thought what you posted was the correct one and Osprey, like most of the time, is worng. But I am afraid Osprey is right this one time and maybe what you posted was a bit too chubby to be Sauberzweig.

Cheers
