Can anyone help. I am looking for a location that I may contact with regard to records of the Royal Preussen Armee. My grandfather Otto Roethe served with them in the early 1880s.

The Royal Prussian Army records were destroyed in early 1945 when the archive at Potsdam was bombed by U.S. aircraft. The loss of these records has been a major stumbling block to researchers delving into pre-1918 German military history. Fortunately, the Royal Bavarian and Württemberg Army pre-1918 records remained more or less intact.
