Gustav von Oppen

Oppen commanded Fusilier-Regiment Nr.73 up to 1917.Ernst Jünger served as a member of this unit.

In late 1917 Oberst von Oppen commanded the Asienkorps in Palestine. He died of cholerea sometime in 1918,buried at the German Cemetery in Damascus.

I'm curious if von Oppen was the only recipient of the PLM after passing away.Normally if you were deceased you could not be awarded this honour? His award date was the 1st November 1918,after his death?

Any further information or photos of this soldier would be appreciated.

I have visited his grave or possible memorial stone in Stadtfriedhof Hannover. I have a pic but unsure how to share.
