Scriba was part of the garrison of Tsingtau in 1914.His father was German,his mother I assume was Japanese(sources state that she was born there along with Emil).
Has anyone and details on this officer?

Son of the doctor and surgeon JK Scriba (his DOB and DOD, since 1881 a Proffessor at the University of Tokyo) and his Japanese wife. Schooled in Weinheim, 1909 Cadet in Berlin, Lieutenant returned to Tokyo.
Aug 1914 Lieutenant in the Reserve of the III. Seebatallion
The dates of his imprisonment in different camps- Kumamoto, Kurume and finally Narashino. 1920 continued living in Japan as a businessman, 1924 married to Tomoe Konishi (born 1900), two daughters.
He sounds a very intersting character, thank you for bringing him to our attention.

I personally doubt that is Lt Schiba. Firstly he doesn't look very Japanese, secondly the record at the Tsingtau website records that he came back from Cadet training in Germany is a Leutnant, and this guy is clearly an NCO not a Leutnant. I think it still leaves the search for a photo of Schiba and the identity of this NCO open....
