Films about the German colonies
A friend of mine recently asked me if there are any films about the German colonies. I've only watched two-
The African Queen starring Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn
and
Shout at the Devil starring Roger Moore and Lee Marvin
Both are based around British and American characters set agaisnt the backdrop of German East Africa in the First World War.
Has anyone seen any others?
Cheers
Chris

The environment and prop not bad, but full of historical errors and with a lot
of clichés, that a politically correct German movie on the colonies has to serve,
as whipped and hanged blacks along the road, trophy collectors (ears) in battle
of Tanga and so on.

Last Tuesday I've seen the first part of Momella - Eine Farm in Afrika(ZDF). A story that is based on facts.
It's about Margarete Trappe who moved to Tanzania to start a farm. The First World War turns her life upside down. Than she managed to supply Lettows troops and traveled with them. This first episode was interesting because of the WWI-part. Something the second episode will lack.

Well, if Indiana Jones can be considered as "GermanColonialMovie" than I would say that the movie 55 Days in Peking would be closer.Fallschirmjäger: wrote:Well i have seen the 2 Chris Dale mentioned and the youn indy ones, but none of the others,or can think of some moreright now?.
If I remember correctly somewhere in the late 70's, the movie "Young Winston Chuchill" also incooperates DSWA scenes.
The movie Lion.....Wind....... with Sean Connery as Berber chief also shows some good scenes regarding the Tangier Affair involving German Colonial Troops.
And offcourse their are some "akward feeling" chinese movies, one is showing Germans on the run and being Kungfued: Hongkong movie, Title in Chinese: 八国联军 download from http://www.verycd.com. It is a chinese webpage so just paste the chinese letters into search.
